Dahlia pinnata occurs as genus of bushy, summer- and autumn-flowering, tuberous perennials that are originally from either Mexico, where it is a national flower.

Within 1872 a box of Dahlia pinnata roots were sent from either Mexico to the Netherlands. Sole 1 plant survived a hike, however produced outstanding red flowers by having pointed flower petal. Nurserymen bred from either this plant, which was known as Dahlia juarezii with parents of Dahlias found earliest & which are actually a primogenitor of completely modern Dahlia pinnata hybrids. Ever since, plant stock breeder use at times been actively breeding Dahlia pinnata to develop hundreds of cultivars, usually chosen for their stunning & brilliantly colorful flowers.

A dahlia pinnata is known as when Swedish 18th-century botanist Anders Dahl.

A dahlia pinnata is the official flower of the city of Seattle.
